Curiosity is the strength of wanting to know, for no reason beyond wanting to know. No exam, no project, no use for it later.
It shows up as questions that have no purpose. How does that get made. Why is that street called that. What is it like to do that job on a Tuesday in February. Somebody who leads here asks these in a queue, of a stranger, and is genuinely listening to the answer.
The engine is that the world stays interesting. A new place is a thing to explore rather than a thing to get through, and an unfamiliar subject is an opening rather than a demand. That does not fade with age here, which is the part people find surprising.

Attention goes where it is pulled. Somebody who leads here can finish a week having learned six interesting things and none of the one thing the week was for. The pull is strongest when the necessary task is dull, which is exactly when it is expensive.
It gets read as being clever, or as collecting facts to deploy later. Neither is it. Somebody can lead here and be an unremarkable student, because school rewards learning on somebody else's schedule and this strength runs entirely on its own.
The closest pair of the 24. Curiosity is drawn to the new thing; Love of Learning enjoys the work of going deeper into a thing already started. One opens tabs, the other finishes books.
Both reach past the obvious. Curiosity wants to find out what is there; Creativity wants to make something that is not.
